Rieko Sakurai was invited to exhibit her work at an international group show curated by Victoria Lu and others in Venice in collaboration with the 54th Venice Biennale. She went to Venice to attend its opening and happened to encounter with Tomohiro Takagi and Eddie Kang, whom we represent,  there.  Take a look at some pictures taken by Takagi. The exhibition invited almost one hundred artists from across the world, though mainly from Asia.

Different dimensions, but...

To worry about recurrent disaster, meaning a big earthquake and the third explosion of Fukushima nuclear plant, and creating/appreciate art works are different things. That is those two things belong to different dimensions. It would be stupid and meaningless to mingle two things together. If some artists or critics do it, the art works would be degraded and fall into just a propaganda tool.

So an artist will be more or less affected by the experiences of those disaster or by impending feeling for future disaster. No one knows when he/she expresses those inner feeling as an art work and what kind of vision they have. But we think it is unavoidable.

Still unstable and no one can forsee the final settlement of this serious accident even after two months. Some people are concerning about safety of Tokyo in the long run. Because densed radioactive particles due to the blast have been floating in the air by the wind and falling down on Tokyo as well as other Kanto erea. Nearby sea was contaminated too. Environmental contamination is getting serious.

Unbelievable thing happened and, tell the truth, we can not yet understand what this accident means to our life. There are many things to think about. Before a gallerist and an artist, we have to think this crisis as human beings.

As wrote before, it is difficult to write a long article on the blog. So decided to write it like twitter. Short one but frequent.
